13 Jan, 2012 MTA Travel Agent reviews Thailand family resort

In November I had the opportunity to visit Phuket, Thailand for the very first time.  Whilst in Phuket our group stayed in three different areas namely Kata, Patong and Kamala. The last resort we stayed in was called Sunwing Resort. The Sunwing Resort at Kamala Beach is a family resort that has everything you could imagine. Located on a long white sandy beach, the Sunwing has direct beach access leading to a large array of restaurants and market shops.
Being a mum of three kids, I found that this resort just had so much to offer families. Seven pools meant you never had to walk more than a minute to get to a pool. There were also plenty of sun lounges with great umbrellas and a great pool bar and lush gardens made it feel like an oasis.

Something very unique to this resort was the happy baby rooms, located on the ground floor and opening directly onto the pools. These rooms included a terrace with private sun lounges and a grassy garden with a gate opening to the pool; perfect for toddlers. Each room came equipped with a mini kitchenette, IKEA plastic ware, prams, high chairs, bumbys, baby baths and more. A king bed, cot and single bed made it a perfect choice for a young family of four. For older families like mine you could choose a two bedroom family suite upstairs which could sleep a family of five with two bathrooms, two TV’s and a door separating the parents from the kids.

There were also various themed restaurants to choose from but if you dine in the main restaurant, kids eat free for every adult meal paid for. Did I mention the great gym, kids club, playground and nightly shows? The most surprising thing of all, amongst all this activity, was that the resort was quiet. There were quiet pools, kid’s pools with shade and even a pool with water aerobics going on.

But to be truly honest, my highlight was the thatched bures by the pool where local Thai women were waiting to give you the best massage of your life - for 300 Baht = AUD$10 (same price as on the beach). I was in a state of bliss! No stuffy spas, no booking in advance, no having to dress in a robe. Just jump out of the pool and walk over with your towel and for the next hour you are in heaven.

In a nutshell the Sunwing Resort, Kamala Beach property is a fully contained 4 star family resort with its own restaurants, entertainment programs and a host of activities for all ages.
